Active vacations for seniors are growing fast because more travelers over 50 now pick the destination for the sport first. They want to play, train, or walk, and then they add the rest.
In short, the idea is simple. You spend the morning on the court, the course or the trail. Then you spend the afternoon enjoying the place itself, with good food, history and a long lunch. Also, rest days are part of the plan.
This guide covers six sports with real 2026-27 dates. We start with pickleball, which just arrived in Europe as a pro tour. Dates can change, so confirm each one with the organizer before you book.
Pickleball: Active Vacations for Seniors With a New Pro Tour in Europe
Pickleball is the easiest of these active vacations for seniors to start, and it has the most new European dates this season.
An estimated 24.3 million Americans played pickleball in 2025. Also, about 28% of players in 2024 were 55 or older. That share includes 12.7% aged 55-64 and 15.1% aged 65 and up. Besides, the game uses a small court and doubles play, so newcomers and returning racket players both enjoy it.

Europe. PPA Tour Europe opened with the P250 Barcelona Open on Sept 23-27, 2026. The season has 20 events in nine countries and €545,000 in prize money. The next confirmed date we found is a PPA500 in Barcelona on May 5-9, 2027. The tour also plans its finals for May 2027. In addition, PPA Spain lists 50+ and 60+ amateur divisions, so you can play as well as watch. Divisions vary by stop, so check each event page.
Turkey. The first European Open runs Nov 3-8, 2026 at a beachfront resort near Antalya. Player registration closed Sept 30, so watch it this year and plan to play next year. Meanwhile, hosted pickleball weeks run through November at 5-star, ultra all-inclusive resorts on the Turkish coast. They start again from April to June 2027, with separate weeks for players rated up to 3.9 and for 4.0+. Early-November days in Antalya run around 20°C.
Spain. On the Costa del Sol, five-day retreats start every week in Fuengirola from Oct 16 to Dec 1, 2026. For example, expect about two hours of coaching a day, a mini tournament, and a group dinner. The afternoons stay free.
Tennis: Level-Matched Coaching On Red Clay, Short Breaks and Week-Long Stays
Tennis has the most mature market for active vacations for seniors, and the best camps group you by ability, not age.
Mallorca. A four-day adult camp includes 10 hours of group coaching on red clay near the beach. First, coaches match players by rating. The 2027 season starts March 22 and runs to mid-June. Camps then resume from mid-September to early November. Most weeks welcome ratings from 2 to 5, while a few focus on a narrower level, such as 3 to 4. Prices start around €495 per person sharing, and flights cost extra.
Turkey. Week-long tennis stays run Nov 8-15, 2026 at a 5-star, ultra all-inclusive resort near Antalya. Then a spring pre-season camp follows at the same resort on April 11-18, 2027. The resort has 61 clay courts, so you can play as much or as little as you like.
In short, breaks of four to five days leave plenty of time for the destination. Meanwhile, week-long stays suit anyone who wants a recovery day in the middle.
Golf: Belek and the Algarve Outside Peak Summer
Golf is a great choice for active vacations for seniors because it travels best in the shoulder seasons. It is warm enough to play comfortably, yet quiet enough to enjoy the course.
Belek, Turkey. Belek has 16 championship courses within about 15 km, and you can play year-round. Golf-travel specialists rate March to May and September to November as the best windows. However, courses schedule maintenance in September and October, and buggy bans may apply. So if you prefer to ride, ask which courses allow buggies on your dates. Some courses also require a handicap certificate, so bring a digital copy.

Watch the pros. The Turkish Airlines Open, a DP World Tour event, ran at National Golf Club in Belek from April 30 to May 3, 2026. The organizers confirmed it will be there for 2027 and 2028. However, the 2027 dates are not out yet. If the pattern holds, it should fall in late April or early May.
The Algarve, Portugal. One golf-travel guide picks April to June and September to October for mild temperatures, fewer visitors and lower prices. Also, autumn days usually reach the high teens to mid-20s °C.
Golf also pairs well with rest. Play a morning round, enjoy a long lunch, then spend the afternoon at the spa. Many Belek resorts have spas, so recovery fits right in.
Walking and Hiking: Graded Routes and Easy Luggage Transfers
Walking is the most flexible active vacation option for seniors, because you choose the grade and the group sets the pace.
Operators grade routes from leisurely to challenging. For example, at the gentle end, an easy grade means about 5-10 km a day with few climbs. Meanwhile, the easy-to-moderate grade covers around 5-15 km. Guided groups usually have 10-14 people, and on self-guided trips the operator moves your luggage between hotels.
- Cinque Terre and the Ligurian coast, Italy. Operators list self-guided leisurely departures from February to November 2027. Guided small-group weeks also run in March, September and October. The coastal paths, villages and sea views suit anyone who likes shorter days.
- Puglia, Italy. Guided weeks start April 3-10 and October 16-23, 2027, from about £1,349 without flights.
- The Dolomites, Italy. Mountain walking season runs roughly June to September, and operators list guided departures in July and September 2027. Choose a gentle base week in Val Gardena if you’re not after big climbs.
- Amalfi Coast, Italy. Small-group weeks that mix walking with other activities begin in April 2027.
A single base hotel for the week, with a rest day halfway through, keeps the packing and the pace simple.
Cycling: E-Bikes, Flat River Paths and Long Lunches
For active vacations for seniors, an e-bike turns a moderate route into an easy one. The best trips center on lunch, not mileage.

You control how much the motor helps, so you can ride with a faster partner and still arrive together. Guided trips also include support vehicles and luggage transfers.
- Tuscany, Italy. A guided e-bike week runs May 8-15 and September 4-11, 2027, from about £2,495 per person without flights. Self-guided leisure routes, such as Pisa to Florence, are rated gentle to moderate. They run from late March to late October, except in July and August.
- The Algarve, Portugal. Small-group e-bike weeks along the coast leave weekly in spring and again in September. Operators advise against August because of the heat.
- Turkey’s Turquoise Coast. Operators list small-group departures on May 8 and 22, and September 11, 18 and 25, plus October 2, 2027, under easy cycling.
- The Danube, Austria and Germany. Bike-and-boat trips follow mostly flat, traffic-free riverside paths. You can also stay on board on a tired day.
Snow: Skiing Outside the School Holidays
If you ski after 50, travel outside school holidays. You avoid the busiest weeks, and March tends to bring milder weather and longer daylight.
The Dolomites, Italy. Val Gardena’s winter season runs Dec 3, 2026 to April 4, 2027. The wide, well-groomed runs suit intermediate skiers. In addition, many hotels run spring offers from mid-March, such as seven nights for the price of six.
Lift-pass discounts. Many resorts discount passes for older skiers, usually from the early 60s. A few go further: Andorra’s Grandvalira and Vallnord offer free passes from age 70. Thresholds vary by resort and season, so check before you book.
Social weeks. Operators run over-50s group weeks with no single supplement, instructor-guided mornings and shared dinners. Also, they list weeks for February and March 2027.
Build in a rest day or a spa afternoon midweek. Then your legs will thank you on day four.

Rest, Recovery, and the Flights Behind Active Vacations For Seniors
Active vacations for seniors work best when you arrive rested and leave room to recover. It all starts with how you plan the flights.

Plan the rest. Keep afternoons free and schedule a midweek recovery day. Also, pick a base with a spa. On long routes, break the journey with a stopover, so you don’t start your first session jet-lagged.
A stopover that pays for itself. Turkish Airlines can put business-class passengers in an Istanbul hotel when the connection lasts 20 hours or more. From the US, that means up to three nights in a 5-star hotel, with breakfast. Then a short flight takes you on to the Antalya coast. To qualify, you need a round-trip ticket on one booking, and Turkish itself must issue it. Also, the ticket can’t be in N or R fare class. Your layover must be at Istanbul Airport, and you must ask at least 72 hours before departure. Award tickets on Turkish-operated flights can qualify too, if you book them by phone. Next, check whether your passport needs a Turkish e-visa. Hotel availability varies, and the airline can change the rules. So confirm on Turkish’s stopover page before you book, or read our Turkish Airlines stopover guide.
Open-jaw routing. You fly into one city and home from another. For example, you could fly into Barcelona for the May 2027 tournament, then spend a few days in Istanbul before heading home. Your personal travel manager can price it both ways.

FAQ: Active Vacations For Seniors
What are the best active vacations for seniors?
The best choice depends on the pace you want. Walking, e-bike and golf trips let you set your own speed. Meanwhile, tennis, pickleball and skiing give you more of a workout. Most operators also group guests by level, so you can start gently and build up.
Do active vacations for seniors require a high fitness level?
No. Operators grade walking routes from leisurely to challenging, and tennis camps match players by rating. Also, pickleball uses a small court and doubles play. Still, if you have a health condition, check with your doctor before you start a new sport.
When is the best time to book active vacations for seniors?
Spring and autumn work best, because the weather is mild and the crowds are smaller. For example, golfers rate Belek highest from March to May and from September to November. Popular weeks can fill early, so book as soon as you know your dates.
How much do active vacations for seniors cost?
Prices vary by sport and season. For example, a four-day tennis camp in Mallorca starts around €495 per person sharing. A seven-night hosted pickleball week at a 5-star resort in Turkey starts around £894. A guided e-bike week in Tuscany starts around £2,495. All of these prices exclude flights.
How do flights fit into active vacations for seniors?
A long flight can wear you out before your first session. In business class, you can sleep on long routes and arrive more rested. Your Personal Travel Manager can also add a stopover, route you into one city and home from another, and plan baggage for rackets or golf clubs. You can also review tailored options by email at your own pace, with no pressure.
Which places suit active vacations for seniors this autumn?
Turkey’s Antalya coast stays mild into November, with early-November days around 20°C. Also, Costa del Sol pickleball retreats run weekly through Dec 1, and Belek’s golf season runs through November.
